Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:11-14 (ESV) Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24 (ESV) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrew 10:23 (ESV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV) Church Service Breakdown and Devotional Date: October 16 & 19, 2025 Message Title: "Hope" (Acts - Part 26) Scripture 1: Acts 26:1-32 (ESV) - Primary Message Scripture Text: [This is the full chapter of Paul's defense before King Agrippa. Due to length, here are key verses]: · v.1: "So Agrippa said to Paul, 'You have permission to speak for yourself.' Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:" · v.6-7: "And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers, to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day." · v.18: "to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me." · v.28-29: "And Agrippa said to Paul, 'In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?' And Paul said, 'Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am—except for these chains.'" Meaning: Paul's testimony before King Agrippa demonstrates that Christian hope is rooted in God's promises and the resurrection. Our hope isn't wishful thinking but confidence in God's faithfulness, leading us to boldly share the Gospel even in difficult circumstances. Scripture 2: Romans 6:11-14 (ESV) - HOLINESS Scripture Text: · v.11: "So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." · v.12: "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions." · v.13: "Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness." · v.14: "For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." Meaning: Hope produces holiness. When we understand our new identity in Christ—dead to sin and alive to God—we can live differently. Grace doesn't give us license to sin but power over sin. True hope transforms how we live daily. Scripture 3: Matthew 16:24 (ESV) - OBEDIENCE Scripture Text: · v.24: "Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" Meaning: Hope requires obedience. Following Jesus isn't passive but involves daily decisions to deny our selfish desires and submit to God's will. Taking up our cross means accepting the cost of discipleship with hope that God's way is better than our own. Scripture 4: Hebrews 10:23 (ESV) - PROMISE Scripture Text: · v.23: "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful." Meaning: Our hope is anchored in God's promises and His faithful character. We can hold firmly to our hope without doubting because it's not based on our circumstances but on God's unchanging nature. He who promised is faithful—this is the foundation of unwavering hope. Scripture 5: Acts 1:8 (ESV) - EVANGELISM Scripture Text: · v.8: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Meaning: Hope compels us to evangelize. The same Holy Spirit who empowers us t
