Matthew 24:3-4 (ESV) And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed… Matthew 24:6a (ESV) And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. Matthew 24:6-8 (ESV) Futurism says that the majority of eschatological prophecy (most of the Book of Revelation, in particular) has not yet been fulfilled. It will be fulfilled in the future. Preterism says that the majority of eschatological prophecy (again, most of the Book of Revelation, in particular) has already been fulfilled. Eclecticism says that the other two views, Futurism and Preterism, both have their merits; they both have some correct and incorrect perspectives. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (ESV) And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. Matthew 24:6 (ESV) But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. Matthew 24:36 (ESV) “Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. "As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, 'Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?'" 2. "And Jesus answered them, 'See that no one leads you astray.'" Meaning: These verses set the stage for Jesus' teachings on the end times. The disciples' curiosity about the end of the age reflects our own curiosity regarding future events. Jesus' primary concern is to warn them against deception. Scripture 2: Matthew 24:6a (ESV) Scripture Text: 1. "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed..." Meaning: Jesus prepares His followers for impending conflicts and turmoil, urging them not to be alarmed. This reassurance is crucial for maintaining faith during uncertain times. Scripture 3: Matthew 24:6-8 (ESV) Scripture Text: 1. "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet." 2. "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places." 3. "All these are but the beginning of the birth pains." Meaning: These verses detail the signs of the end times, including wars, natural disasters, and global upheaval. Jesus describes these events as the beginning of birth pains, indicating that more significant events are to come. Additional Teachings on Eschatology: 1. Futurism: Suggests that most eschatological prophecy, especially in Revelation, has yet to be fulfilled. 2. Preterism: Argues that the majority of eschatological prophecy has already been fulfilled. 3. Eclecticism: Combines Futurism and Preterism, acknowledging merits in both views. Scripture 4: John 16:33 (ESV) Scripture Text: 1. "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." Meaning: Jesus promises peace amidst tribulation and assures His followers of His ultimate victory over the world. This comfort is vital for believers facing trials.
